While we find ourselves already in February (where has the time gone?!), it’s time to check in with our health and fitness goals that we set for ourselves this year. It’s easy to keep the festive season lingering long after it’s over, and we know how hard it is to get back into your routine and rhythm of fitness after a short time off. However, your body, mind and emotional wellbeing will be so thankful once you start exercising regularly and we’ve got just the thing to give you a little kick into gear!

Here are our top five tips on how to get (and stay) motivated:
1. Put it into words
It might be a quote, a little daily saying or motivator that keeps you in check and pushes you to get out of bed on those mornings you just want to hit the snooze button. Keep these words and reminders on your phone, on a post-it note next to your bed or on the fridge, and read them every morning to start your day off with a positive mindset!
2. Find something that makes you smile!
Not every type of exercise is going to suite every type of person. If hitting the gym and running on a treadmill just isn’t your thing, don’t do it. If you can’t find the balance or mental strength to stay focused during a yoga class, give this a miss. If what you’re currently doing doesn’t give you joy, find something that does. That’s why we love reformer Pilates as there’s a different class styles to suite different people, yet it’s always challenging and fun. Want a good cardio workout, come to our Jump 45 class, need something that focuses on your postnatal journey, attend one of our Exercise Physiologist classes, or you love both matwork and reformer and can’t decide between the two, try our Core Essentials class. 3. Set realistic goals
Set yourself some goals, whether they be long term or simply week to week, it’s easier to be accountable for yourself when you have goals that are realistic and achievable. On a Sunday afternoon, take some time out to reflect on your week, plan your weekly meal schedule and book into your Pilates classes. Whether you are committing to two, three or four classes a week, get these booked and scheduled in early so you have no excuses and you don’t miss out on the classes you like most!
4. Find your workout buddy
This doesn’t have to mean bringing a friend or family member to class, this could be your Pilates instructor or just someone that holds you accountable for your goals. While we know how much more enjoyable it is to hit class with your bestie and go for a coffee afterwards, when we’re fitting in a class around a busy work schedule, mum life or just whenever we can find a spare hour this sometimes isn’t achievable. Instead, look to your Pilates Instructor as all the teachers at Adapt with Pilates are highly qualified and bring a fun and energetic vibe to the studio. Otherwise look to someone else in class that you regularly see and decide together that you’ll always see each other in class. And, if you do have a friend, partner or family member that is wanting to join in your goals – even better!
5. The benefits!
Of course, this point should be first, as the benefits of regular exercise, for both your mental and physical state are endless. Quality sleep, brain function, clarity, immunity, stress relief, heart health and body strength are just skimming the surface in the list of benefits from just 30 minutes of exercise a day. Regular physical activity is also a powerful way of reducing the risk of viral and bacterial infections and lowing the risk of chronic stress and disease. Moderate intensity exercise has proven to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep, increase the length of sleep and improve the quality of it, and we all know how much of a difference a good night’s sleep makes to our overall mood. And lastly, the ENDORPHINS! Endorphins are natural mood boosters; they are stress relievers and they make us feel damn amazing!

You deserve to take some time out, find that hour that is solely focused on you and your body, tune into your movements and clear that busy mind! Ready to get back on track with your goals and see 2021 as your healthiest yet? Contact us, or pop into the studio today!
